My Forte…

5

As some of you know, I’ve been airbrushing for about 10 years now, and its been an on and off relationship. There will be months where I would just go on an airbrush streak and create mind blowing pieces, and then there are the years where I will take a break. And I think its because I like being on the move and I cannot just sit in one place for hours.  Anyhow this is besides the point of post.

For years I have been looking for some one that I can actually say I trust enough to pass on some work and folks, I think I found him. The airbrush game is a very competitive field and everyone will claim king, which is just an “artist’s ego”. But today I will have to give respect where respect is due.

Meet Greg. A true artist that has been in the airbrush game for over 15 years. I had the pleasure of speaking to him about our personal experiences and it just goes to show that you can never stop learning now matter how long you’ve been doing something. Over a 15 minute conversation I’ve learned things that I would have never thought of, tips and tricks of the trade. And I think more artist, or anyone that is a master of their craft, should be more like Greg, and that is the willingness to help other artist become better. Today, people are so terrified to share information thinking that the next person will steal the ideas. A Tribe Called Quest put it best: “..progressions can’t be made if we’re separate forever…”

Positivi-tees…

Yes it has been a few days since my last post. I’ve been very busy, and I will post what has been happening at Underground Creations soon.

Anyhow, in today’s fashion world we can all say that there is a handful of tshirt lines out there. We all notice that everyone is knocking off everyone and no one really stands out. There are a few out there, but they are completely in the underground and its hard to discover them. Trust me I know.

Well let me shed some light on a company I’ve had the pleasure designing for: BPlusCLothing

The whole concept for their clothing is simple. Taking inspiring words from some of the worlds top icons, and passing the message on through their clothing.

I think its a great thing that they are doing and its going against the grain on what clothing lines usually go for in terms of concept.

Other than the great images that these shirts have, the words are what we should focus on. I have always said that one of the most powerful things in this world, are the words that we put out into the universe.

BplusCLothing will be available online and stores soon and we will definitely keep you posted.

But for now, go check out there stuff: http://www.bplusclothing.com/

TOP 5 “I REMEMBER” SHOES

All those who know me, know that I’m a big sneaker head. The thing about my collection is that I dont buy the hottest Jordans nor do I cop the hottest air max’s. I’m the type of collector that can look at a shoe and 10 years down the line it will be posted in a blog post such as this one, and people will say “daaamn, I remember those”.

Well although only two of these entries were in my collection, the rest brought back sort of a nostalgic feeling, reminding me of my mushroom haircut days, and playing basketball trying to do the Shawn Kemp spin off the base line…….#reflection….lol

Now in no particular order, I present to you….I Remember:

The Shawn Kemp’s. Reebok’s Kamikaze

I remember seeing them in the Slam Magazines and thought how ugly the shoes were that I wanted them so badly. Not to mention Shawn Kemp was my favorite player back then.

Maybe I havent been keeping up with kicks news, but if they haven’t yet, they need to bring these back. Like soon

The Patrick Ewing’s. If you didn’t have a pair you were non-existant. lol. I think these were a flag of New York City but on your shoes. I also think these were what birth the coolness in the color purple. (maybe not. lol)

Dikembe Mutombo’s.

Some one please educate me but did Adidas make this shoe? Cus I remember buying them at a Payless back in the day, and I know damn well Adidias’ do not sell at Payless.

I just love the tribal African inspired details. I have pics of me wearing these kicks, which I would love to show, but it would expose my mushroom hair cut.

Now who can forget the Magic Johnson shoes.

Plain, simple, and an instant classic.

I remember getting them, and thinking of how cool I was, cus no one had a clue in my elementary school who Magic Johnson was, and why I was wearing his shoes. Damn I was so cool.

Last but not least, we got the Grant Hill’s.

They came in the low and High tops, but in my opinion the Hightops are always cooler, that and if you got the low tops it meant you didnt have the extra 20$ to spend on the high-tops. lol

When I played in these shoes, I dont know if it was just me, but I felt like I could jump higher. ( dont judge me!!)

Well there you have it. My top 5 “I remember” shoes.

if i did leave anything out, and I know I did, pls drop me a line.  There’s like a million kicks out there!

enjoy

This is just a small announcement. We will be having a a boxing week special, where you can get anything in the store for 2 for 40$ (includes: shirts with prints, long sleeve with prints, and selected airbrush prints. All other stuff can be negotiated at the store. So come on by!

This sale will end on the 2nd of January.

Another Airbrush Painting.

So as Christmas approaches, I have customers asking for me to paint random stuff. I shouldnt be doing this but i have to show you one of the pieces I recently completed. They asked for a snow boarder and then to put my creative touches. And this is what came out of that.

3 hours and 1 Red Bull.

Media: Airbrush and spray paint.

BEAR MADNESS…

And it has begun. I received these items from Build-a-Bear yesterday and it seems that people are now catching on to the custom tees for their bears.

The way it works is that I do my pick ups on Tuesday and return them on Friday for customers to pick up their items at the Build-a-Bear location.

We might have to change that since I know for a fact that the holiday rush is gonna be bananas!

I mean who wouldn’t want a personalized shirt or jersey. What scares me is not the amount of shirts that will be coming in, but the time that they will be coming in. I wouldn’t be surprised if Christmas Eve was the busiest day of the season.

So consider this a warning, if you come at 4:55pm on Christmas Eve, expect the Grinch to be serving you. lol!!!

Alright so its going down next week at Tapis Rouge located in downtown Montreal. Our goal for this event is to collect as much canned food for the less fortunate. We will be partnering up with Endigee Clothing and doing custom shirts on the spot. For only 10$, you will be able to get anything you want on a shirt. All profits from this will be donated to the SUN YOUTH FOUNDATION.

I’m a true believer in not only giving back to the community but also helping one another. There maybe times where you will struggle in life but there is always someone else who has it worst. And its a strong action when you help out someone even if you are dealing with your own problems. It not only bring great Karma but in a way cleanses the soul. And I wish that it wasn’t always around this time that people decide to “give”, it should be done all year ’round.

So swing on by Tapis Rouge next week and bring your canned goods or donation and have a good time with us. As mentioned on the flyer, there will be musical acts from the city’s finest, and music by some of Montreal’s top djs.

See you there

Custom superhero…

So I had a client come in today and wanted something original for her boyfriend. And this is what she wanted. Came to the shop with no pic, so I had to face the pressure of doing it in front of her. All good though. There was more to this design but I have to protect the persons ID cus its a present. God forbid he sees it here before Christmas. lol .

Ill be open and say that I am 30 years old and over the years have come across a few hundred thousand album covers, almost making it impossible to remember them. Now to break it down to just top 5 was quite the challenge, and absolutely wouldn’t be fair to other album covers that I may have forgotten. SO, I based this on what was going on in my mind at this present moment, pure spontaneous instinct, if there is such thing. lol.

Number 5:

Nas. I love the fact he used the same background for these 4 albums. It tells a story and if you follow and listen to Nas you to would see what he was trying to portray.

Number 4:

Alice Smith.

To be honest her album was good, but when I was short in space for my ipod, she was one of the first to go. No offense. But to me, what stuck out the most was her cover. Love the artwork, looks like a mix media between airbrush, photo shop, and marker. I could be wrong. But the way they used the background for some reason really pulls me in.

Number 3:

Outkast: ATLiens

Big fan of the comic book look. I think they were one of the first to try this and pulled it off.

Number 2:

Kanye West. Why? Because you know that he just wanted to make people ask “WTF?”

But if you know what Kanye’s been through and all the battles he’s faced, whether it be spiritual, emotional or personal, the art work says a lot, and says it loudly.  Here is just one of the few paintings that are a part of Kanye’s “My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy” album.

And at number 1:

MJ. Yes that’s right. Since i was 8, when this cover came out I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. And today I still find this cover badass.

think about the technology back then. they didnt have photoshop. this piece must have been done with airbrush, maybe some guache, and maybe some acrylic work. But just think of how they pieced it together.  This cover is a true piece of work.

Mentionables: Metallica ( and Justice for all), Blackstar (mos def & talib kweli), beatles white album, jayz black album, Gorrilaz (all of them)

Cancer Stinks…

It sucks that to this day, there is still no cure for cancer. I myself know some who have survived it, and unfortunately some who haven’t. But if we come together and fight it, we will soon find a cure.

Today Mephitis Clothing, a Montreal based clothing line, has announced the launch of their special edition “Cancer Stinks” tee.

Within the next few days I should have more info as to how much these tees are going for, and which foundation they have chosen to donate money to.

I find it such a great, and genuine gesture for a company to take time and raise money for such a cause.

As Q-tip (tribe called quest) said, and I use this quote all the time, it should be mine lol, “PROGRESSIONS CAN’T BE MADE , IF WE’RE SEPARATE FOREVER”.

Stay tuned
